History focus: Who were the ancient Britons?
We begin with our history topic on Prehistoric Britain from the Stone Age to the Iron Age.

17 + 5 = ___
Can you put the larger number in your head and count on the smaller number?
Can you use number bonds to solve the addition more effieciently?
We could partition the 5 into 3 and 2 and use this to bridge the 10.
17 + 3 = 20 20 + 2 = 22
Multiplication and division
Children have already met the 2, 5 and 10 times tables (including being able to divide by 2, 5 and 10) in Year 2. We will continue to embed these before moving onto the 3, 4 and 8 times tables.
How many wheels are there on 5 bicycles?
If there are 14 wheels, how many bicycles are there?
There are 35 fingers. How many hands?
Is there a link between dividing by 2 and halving?
Bobbles come in packs of 3. If there are 21 bobbles, how many packs are there?

Children are introduced to millimetres for the first time and build on their understanding of centimetres and metres.
Children use different measuring equipment including rulers, tape measures and metre sticks.
If there are 100 cm in 1 metre, how many centimetres are in 2 metres? How many centimetres are in 3 metres?
Fractions
Children find a half of a set of objects (a quantity) and make links to dividing by 2.
We also explore quarters and thirds. What is the whole? What is a half? What is a quarter?

Children recap on Year One and Year Two learning about telling the time to the
hour and half past the hour.
Children also recap the number of hours in a day and are introduced to language such as ‘noon’, ‘midday’, ‘midnight’.
Other facts such as days in a week/month are also reviewed.
Children move on to telling time to the nearest 5 minutes and the nearest minute.
Children are introduced to telling the time on a 24-hour digital clock for the first time.
